The equipment range proposed by VEM includes a high technology content plant for mass-production of tapered GRP poles suitable for the use in street lighting, park and garden lighting, low and medium voltage electricity lines and in telephone and telegraph lines. The filament winding technique applied in this manufacturing process provides the products with maximum mechanical strength in the direction of the main stress (longitudinal bending) with a perfect homogeneity both in mass production (constant quality, negligible variations in weight, etc.) and in individual products with regards to glass/resin ratio, the winding angle and all other features determining the main technical properties of the GRP pole. The average production capacity of the plant is 20,000 poles/year for 13,5 m height.

Dimensions and Characteristics
The filament winding technology allows manufacturing the poles of 6, 9, 12, 16 m. Superior and inferior heights are available upon request.
Diameters rage from 76 mm (top) x 105 mm (bottom) to 76 mm (top) x 300mm (bottom).
The poles are made in glass-fiber reinforces with polyester resin. The winding angle ranges from 0° to 90°.
The external resin coating performed by spray-up contains a UV inhibitor or a color pigment.

The advantages of GRP poles compared to traditional metal, concrete or wooden poles can be summarized as follows:
1. Light weight, securing an easy transportation, handling and installation
2. Long life, maintenance free
3. Accident safety due to lesser damages and the shock absorption of lightweight GRP
4. Very low conductivity, no electrical/lightning hazard, no sparks
5. Corrosion and chemical resistance, both soil corrosion and deicer agents used in winter
6. High strength due to a high strength-to-weight ratio of GRP, the latter also guarantees a high rigidity and at the same time flexibility of the product
7. GRP flexibility decreasing the low-frequency vibrations  thus assuring a longer life of the pole and the lamps .
